Miles away from Houston, where the destruction of hurricane Harvey occurred, two senior boys asked locally for donations to help out victims. With friends in affected areas, Alfonso Arredondo and Dany Garza found a way to not only help their companions, but others who lost almost everything.
”We needed to help out because it didn’t feel right having clear sky’s here while they were losing so much over there,” said Arredondo, “That’s why we asked others to donate anything that could help.”
The boys posted photos on social media, sent out mass messages, and had their parents put announcements on their work’s Facebook pages to get the word out.
“At first I didn’t understand how serious the hurricane was,” said Arredondo, “But as more pictures and video spread I felt almost amazed at how destructive it was.”
Spending entire afternoons picking up donations around town, Arredondo and Garza filled their car four times with bags and boxes of items.
“LFD Furnishings is sending their 18 wheelers along with our donations to parts of Aransas, Rockport and towns in the area that did not receive much aid.” said Arredondo, “I hope that everything was beneficial.”
This wasn’t Arredondo’s first time getting things together to be donated to places in need.
“I feel like helping and giving to impoverished areas is always the right thing to do,” said Arredondo, “That’s why we did what we did.”
